The Miracles of Jesus <\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Quran gives Jesus one of the highest positions among the prophets. <\/span>Unlike other prophets who performed miracles, Jesus himself was a miracle because he was born of a virgin mother and God describes him and his mother as follows: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

„… and We made her (Mary) and her son (Jesus) a sign of the worlds.“ <\/span>(Quran 21:91) <\/span><\/span>
\nIt is written in the Quran about Jesus that he performed numerous miracles that were not given to other prophets. <\/span>God says: <\/span><\/span>
\n\u201cAnd We gave clear miracles to Jesus the Son of Mary …\u201d (Quran 2:87) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The following is a brief description of the miracles that Jesus performed and mentioned in the Quran: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. A table with dishes<\/span><\/span>
\nIn the fifth chapter of the Quran \u201cThe Table\u201d – named after the miracle of Jesus, God describes how the disciples asked Jesus to ask God to send down a table loaded with food so that they can remember a special day in the future .<\/span><\/span>
\n\u201cWhen the disciples said: ‚O Jesus, son of Mary, is your Lord able to send us a table (with dishes) from heaven?‘ <\/span>he said, „Fear God if you are believers.“ <\/span>They said: ‚We want to eat of it and our hearts should be calm and we want to know that you really spoke to us and we want to testify for it ourselves. <\/span>Then Jesus, the son of Mary, said: ‚O my God, our Lord, send us a table (with dishes) from heaven that it is a feast for us, for the first of us and for the last of us, and a sign from you; <\/span>and take care of us; <\/span>because you are the best provider! ‚\u201d(Quran 5: 112-114)<\/span><\/span>
\nSince that event it has been a \u201crecurring feast for us\u201d, it corresponds to the Last Supper, also called the Lord’s Supper, the breaking of the bread, called the Eucharist or Communion. <\/span>Holy Communion has always been a high point in Christian worship. <\/span>The Encyclopedia Britannica says: <\/span><\/span>
\n\u201cThe sacrament is a Christian sacrament that visualizes the deeds of Jesus during his last sacrament with his disciples. <\/span>\u2026 Paul’s letters and Acts make it clear that early Christianity believed that this facility included instructions to continue the feast\u2026 The Lord’s Supper has become a central rite of Christian worship. \u201d[2] <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2. Still in the cradle<\/span><\/span>
\nOne of the miracles that the Quran describes, though not mentioned in the Bible, is that when Jesus was still in the cradle, he spoke to protect his mother from people’s accusations of being a child had no father. <\/span>When someone started asking her about the strange story of her birth, Mary only pointed to Jesus, who spoke miraculously, just as God had announced to her. <\/span><\/span>
\n„And he will speak in the cradle to people and as an adult, and he will be one of the righteous.“ <\/span>(Quran 3:46) <\/span><\/span>
\nJesus said to people:<\/span><\/span>
\n\u201cI am a servant of God. <\/span>He gave me the book and made me a prophet. <\/span>And He gave me His blessing wherever I may be, and He commanded me to pray and give alms as long as I live; <\/span>and deferential to my mother (to be); <\/span>He didn’t make me violent and unhappy. <\/span>And peace was upon me on the day I was born, and (peace will be on me) on the day I die and the day I come back to life. \u201d <\/span>(Quran 19: 30-33) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

3. And a bird <\/span><\/span>
\nis mentioned to God, a miracle that was not granted to anyone in the Quran except Jesus, one that is very similar to the creation of Adam. <\/span>This miracle is one whose magnificence cannot be denied. <\/span>God mentions in the Quran that Jesus said:<\/span><\/span>
\n„See, I create the shape of a bird for you out of clay and I will breathe into it, and with God’s sake it shall become a bird.“ <\/span>(Quran 3:49) <\/span><\/span>
\nThis miracle is not found in today’s New Testament, but it is mentioned in the non-canonical gospel of Thomas: \u201cWhen this boy was five years old, he played at the ford of a torrent … he then took soft clay and made twelve sparrows out of it … but Jesus just clapped his hands and called to the sparrows: „Go away, fly away and remember me, you who live now!“ <\/span>And the sparrows took off and flew away noisily. \u201d <\/span>(The Gospel of Childhood Thomas: 2) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

4. Healing the Blind and the Leper<\/span><\/span>
\nSimilar to the New Testament [3], the Quran also mentions that Jesus healed the blind and the lepers. <\/span><\/span>
\n„… and I heal the blind-born and the leper …“ (Quran 3:49) <\/span><\/span>
\nThe Jews were very advanced in the field of medicine at the time of Jesus and they were accordingly proud of these achievements. <\/span>For this reason God gave miracles of this kind to Jesus, ones that the Jews could understand well that no force of nature could do anything like that. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

5. The Raising of the Dead <\/span><\/span>
\n„… and bring the dead to life with God’s permission …“ (Quran 3:49)<\/span><\/span>
\nThis, like the creation of a bird, was an incomparable miracle, one that should have led the Jews to undoubtedly believe in Jesus‘ prophecy. <\/span>In today’s New Testament, we read three cases in which, with God’s permission, Jesus brought the dead back to life – the daughter of Jarius (Matt 9:18, 23; Mark 5:22, 35; Luke 8:40, 49), the son the widow in Nain, (Luke 7:11), and Lazarus (John 11:43). <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

6. The care of today and tomorrow <\/span><\/span>
\nJesus was given the miracle of knowing both what people had just eaten and what they had in store for the coming days. <\/span>God says: <\/span><\/span>
\n\u201c\u2026 And I tell you what you eat and what you store in your houses. <\/span>Truly there is a sign for you if you are a believer. \u201d <\/span>(Quran 3:49)<\/span><\/span>
\nA Proof of the Truth <\/span><\/span>
\nSimilar to other prophets, Jesus performed miracles to convince skeptics of the truth, not to demonstrate divinity. <\/span>The Quran says, <\/span><\/span>
\n„Truly there is a sign for you if you are a believer.“ <\/span>(Quran 3:49) <\/span><\/span>
\nThese miracles were accomplished only by the will of God, if He had not wanted them, they would never have come about. <\/span>God clarifies this in several places in the Quran by saying: <\/span><\/span>
\n\u201c\u2026 With God’s permission\u201d (Quran 3:49; 5:10)<\/span><\/span>
\nEven though Muslims today cannot confirm this as the truth that really happened, the Bible says in certain traditions that Jesus was not always able to perform miracles. <\/span>Once when Jesus tried to heal a blind man, the first attempt failed and Jesus had to try a second time (Mark 8: 22-26). <\/span>On another occasion: \u201cAnd he couldn’t do a single act there; <\/span>He put his hands on only a few sick people and healed them. \u201d(Mark 6: 5) The <\/span><\/span>
\nfact is that neither Jesus nor any other prophet could perform miracles on his own will. <\/span>They were accomplished only by the will of God Almighty – a fact that is also emphasized in today’s Bible:<\/span><\/span>
\n\u201cA man, shown by God among you, with deeds, miracles and signs, which God did through you through him. <\/span>(Acts 2:22) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
