Despite the systematic distortion of the divine revelation currently contained in the so-called \u201cBible\u201d, we still find relics of the truth which was sent down by God in the Holy Scriptures. Distortion does not mean that scriptures are totally written down by human beings. It rather means that some parts are from God, while others are not.<\/p>\n
Distortion altered the clear references to Makkah (Mecca) in the Holy Scriptures contained in the Bible just as it did other dogmatic issues which are even more important and pivotal. No wonder, in the Bible, God is purported to need to have rest and to feel regret like human beings so that a son can be ascribed to Him. Also, \u201cbegotten\u201d is interpolated and given as a description of Jesus to distinguish him from the other sons of God in the Bible so that people may believe in his divinity. Similarly, the prophets and messengers of God are purported to have drunk alcohol, got intoxicated and committed adultery in order to pave the way for belief in the alleged salvation brought by Jesus. Likewise, most biblical prophecies of Prophet Muhammad were obliterated, and the remaining prophecies are denied and misinterpreted. Therefore, it is not unlikely that the clear-cut references to Makkah are equally blotted out.<\/p>\n
In spite of all this distortion, corruption, adulteration, and interpolation, the Bible still includes references, direct and indirect, to Makkah. There are still questions which the distorters cannot answer though they erased most facts and left only little genuine divine revelation in the Bible.<\/p>\n
Direct References to Makkah<\/strong><\/p>\n Baka<\/strong><\/p>\n The Bible makes reference of \u201cBaka\u201d, which is one of the various names of Makkah. In the Bible, we read: \u201cAs they pass through the Valley of Baka, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools.\u201d (Psalm 84:6)<\/p>\n The above variant of Makkah is similarly cited in the Qur\u2019an. We read:<\/p>\n Indeed, the first House [of worship] established for mankind was that at Baka \u2013 blessed and guidance for the worlds. <\/strong>(Aal `Imran 3:96)<\/p>\n The eighty fourth chapter (Psalm 84) tells us about a sacred place accommodating the courts of the Lord, for which souls long even faint, at which heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God, God\u2019s praise is sung and there is a valley called \u201cthe Valley of Baca\u201d. The chapter also tells us that this is a dry place made into a place of springs in the vicinity of tents, at which a day is better than a thousand elsewhere.<\/p>\n Do those descriptions not resemble those ones the Qur\u2019an quotes Abraham as giving?<\/p>\n Our Lord, I have settled some of my descendants in an uncultivated valley near Your sacred House, our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So make hearts among the people incline toward them and provide for them from the fruits that they might be grateful <\/strong>(Ibrahim 14:37)<\/p>\n Do the above biblical descriptions not resemble those given by Prophet Muhammad? It is reported on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may God be pleased with him) that Prophet Muhammad said: \u201cOne prayer in my Mosque is better than one thousand prayers in any other mosque excepting Al-Masjid-AI-Haram (the holy mosque in Makkah).\u201d (Al-Bukhari)<\/p>\n In fact, all of those descriptions apply to Makkah. Supposing that the intended place is somewhere in the vicinity of Zion, where is the place in the vicinity of Zion for which souls long even faint, at which heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God, God\u2019s praise is sung and there is a valley called \u201cthe Valley of Baca\u201d, and which is a dry place made into a place of springs in the vicinity of tents, at which a day is better than a thousand elsewhere?<\/p>\n Paran<\/strong><\/p>\n Makkah is also referred to as \u201cParan\u201d in the Bible. While we do not confirm that \u201cParan\u201d is an old name of Makkah, it still refers to it given the associated indications and implications. So, we are not sure if \u201cParan\u201d is actually an old name of Makkah or the word \u201cMakkah\u201d was deleted and replaced with \u201cParan\u201d.<\/p>\n The Bible tells us that a well of water gushed out in the Desert of Paran, from which Hagar drank and gave her son Ishmael to drink. This consists with the above verses making mention of the Valley of Baka which is made into a place of springs. So, the Bible tells us about a well of water gushing out in the Valley of Baka and the Desert of Paran as well. We read:<\/p>\n 14 Early the next morning Abraham took some food and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar. He set them on her shoulders and then sent her off with the boy. She went on her way and wandered in the Desert of Beersheba. Not to mention the well of water, the Bible tells us that Ishmael grew up and lived in the Desert of Paran and God undertook to make him into a great nation.<\/p>\n Now, we may ask: if Paran does not refer to Makkah, where is the alleged \u201cParan\u201d where a well of water gushed out and Ishmael lived and begot a great nation? If it is located in Palestine or Sinai or in between as claimed by Christians, where are the well and the great nation over there? Is it not logical that a historic place like that should be famous and well-known for everybody?<\/p>\n In fact, we do not know about a place where a well gushed out for Hagar and her son Ishmael and at which Ishmael lived and begot a great nation other than Makkah.<\/p>\n It is curious that the above verses of the Bible closely resemble the narration reported on the authority of Ibn `Abbas (may God be pleased with him). Ibn `Abbas narrated:<\/p>\n When Abraham had differences with his wife, (because of her jealousy of Hajar, Ishmael\u2019s mother), he took Ishmael and his mother and went away. They had a water-skin with them containing some water, Ishmael\u2019s mother used to drink water from the water-skin so that her milk would increase for her child. When Abraham reached Makkah, he made her sit under a tree and afterwards returned home. Ishmael\u2019s mother followed him, and when they reached Kada\u2019, she called him from behind, \u2018O Abraham! To whom are you leaving us?\u2019 He replied, \u2018(I am leaving you) to God\u2019s (Care).\u2019 She said, \u2018I am satisfied to be with God.\u2019 She returned to her place and started drinking water from the water-skin, and her milk increased for her child. When the water had all been used up, she said to herself, \u2018I\u2019d better go and look so that I may see somebody.\u2019 She ascended the Safa mountain and looked, hoping to see somebody, but in vain. When she came down to the valley, she ran till she reached the Marwa mountain. She ran to and fro (between the two mountains) many times. They she said to herself, \u2018i\u2019d better go and see the state of the child,\u2019 she went and found it in a state of one on the point of dying. She could not endure to watch it dying and said (to herself), \u2018If I go and look, I may find somebody.\u2019 She went and ascended the Safa mountain and looked for a long while but could not find anybody. Thus she completed seven rounds (of running) between Safa and Marwa. Again she said (to herself), \u2018I\u2019d better go back and see the state of the child.\u2019 But suddenly she heard a voice, and she said to that strange voice, \u2018Help us if you can offer any help.\u2019 Lo! It was Gabriel (who had made the voice). Gabriel hit the earth with his heel like this (Ibn `Abbas hit the earth with his heel to Illustrate it), and so the water gushed out. Ishmael\u2019s mother was astonished and started digging. (Abu Al-Qasim) (i.e. the Prophet) said, \u201cIf she had left the water, (flow naturally without her intervention), it would have been flowing on the surface of the earth.\u201d) Ishmael\u2019s mother started drinking from the water and her milk increased for her child. Afterwards some people of the tribe of Jurhum, while passing through the bottom of the valley, saw some birds, and that astonished them, and they said, \u2018Birds can only be found at a place where there is water.\u2019 They sent a messenger who searched the place and found the water, and returned to inform them about it. Then they all went to her and said, \u2018O Ishmael\u2019s mother! Will you allow us to be with you (or dwell with you)?\u2019 (And thus they stayed there.) Later on her boy reached the age of puberty and married a lady from them. Then an idea occurred to Abraham which he disclosed to his wife (Sarah), \u2018I want to call on my dependents I left (at Makkah).\u2019 When he went there, he greeted (Ishmael\u2019s wife) and said, \u2018Where is Ishmael?\u2019 She replied, \u2018He has gone out hunting.\u2019 Abraham said (to her), \u2018When he comes, tell him to change the threshold of his gate.\u2019 When he came, she told him the same whereupon Ishmael said to her, \u2018You are the threshold, so go to your family (i.e. you are divorced).\u2019 Again Abraham thought of visiting his dependents whom he had left (at Makkah), and he told his wife (Sarah) of his intentions. Abraham came to Ishmael\u2019s house and asked. \u201cWhere is Ishmael?\u201d Ishmael\u2019s wife replied, \u201cHe has gone out hunting,\u201d and added, \u201cWill you stay (for some time) and have something to eat and drink?\u2019 Abraham asked, \u2018What is your food and what is your drink?\u2019 She replied, \u2018Our food is meat and our drink is water.\u2019 He said, \u2018O God! Bless their meals and their drink.\u201d Abu Al-Qasim (i.e. Prophet) said, \u201cBecause of Abraham\u2019s invocation there are blessings (in Makkah).\u201d Once more Abraham thought of visiting his family he had left (at Makkah), so he told his wife (Sarah) of his decision. He went and found Ishmael behind the Zamzam well, mending his arrows. He said, \u201cO Ishmael, Your Lord has ordered me to build a house for Him.\u201d Ishmael said, \u201cObey (the order of) your Lord.\u201d Abraham said, \u201cGod has also ordered me that you should help me therein.\u201d Ishmael said, \u201cThen I will do.\u201d So, both of them rose and Abraham started building (the Ka`ba) while Ishmael went on handing him the stones, and both of them were saying, \u201cO our Lord! Accept (this service) from us, Verily, You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.\u201d (Al-Baqarah 2.127). When the building became high and the old man (i.e. Abraham) could no longer lift the stones (to such a high position), he stood over the stone of Al- Maqam and Ishmael carried on handing him the stones, and both of them were saying, \u2018O our Lord! Accept (this service) from us, Verily You are All-Hearing, All-Knowing.\u201d (Al-Baqarah 2:127)<\/p>\n It is worth noting that the Bible tells us that God shined from mount Paran. We read:<\/p>\n And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. And he said, The Lord came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran, and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them\u2026 (Deuteronomy 33:1-3)<\/p>\n We do not find any interpretation for such shining in the Bible, but we find such interpretation in the Qur\u2019an. We read:<\/p>\n Those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered prophet, whom they find written in what they have of the Torah and the Gospel, who enjoins upon them what is right and forbids them what is wrong and makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the evil and relieves them of their burden and the shackles which were upon them. So they who have believed in him, honored him, supported him and followed the light which was sent down with him \u2013 it is those who will be the successful. <\/strong>(Al-A`raf 7:157)<\/p>\n O People of the Scripture, there has come to you Our Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has come to you from God a light and a clear Book. By which God guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path.<\/strong>(Al-Ma\u2019idah 5:15-16)<\/p>\n And thus We have revealed to you an inspiration of Our command. You did not know what is the Book or [what is] faith, but We have made it a light by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And indeed, [O Muhammad], you guide to a straight path <\/strong>(Ash-Shura 42:52)<\/p>\n Indirect References to Makkah<\/strong><\/p>\n New Jerusalem<\/strong><\/p>\n When Jesus Christ was asked about the place where worship must be conducted, he stated that worship will be conducted at a new place other than Jerusalem. In the New Testament, we read:<\/p>\n The woman said to him, \u201cSir, I perceive that you are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.\u201d Jesus said to her, \u201cWoman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. (John 4:19-21)<\/p>\n Way of Holiness<\/strong><\/p>\n Again, the Bible tells us about a well of water gushing out in the desert and a way called \u201cWay of Holiness\u201d over which the unclean shall not pass and those who walk on it shall not go astray. In the Bible, we read:<\/p>\n 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert; 7 the burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty ground springs of water; in the haunt of jackals, where they lie down, the grass shall become reeds and rushes. 8 And a highway shall be there, and it shall be called the Way of Holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it. It shall belong to those who walk on the way; even if they are fools, they shall not go astray. 9 No lion shall be there, nor shall any ravenous beast come up on it; they shall not be found there, but the redeemed shall walk there. 10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. (Isaiah 35:5-10)<\/p>\n Villages of Kedar<\/strong><\/p>\n The Bible commands singing the praises of God at the villages inhabited by Kedar, in reference to Talbiyah, Takbir and Tahlil in Makkah. It is noteworthy that Kedar is a son of Ishmael and a forefather of Arabs. His offspring lived in Arabia. We read:<\/p>\n Sing unto the Lord a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains. (Isaiah 42:10-11)<\/p>\n In spite of the claim that the sixtieth chapter of Isaiah talks about an alleged Zion, the descriptions given therein are more applicable to Makkah. It is Makkah to which nations come from afar and kings come to the brightness of its rising and all gather together \u00a0according to the following Qur\u2019anic verses:<\/p>\n And [mention, O Muhammad], when We designated for Abraham the site of the House, [saying], \u201cDo not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.<\/strong><\/p>\n And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel; they will come from every distant pass <\/strong>(Al-Hajj 22:27-28)<\/p>\n It is Makkah to which the abundance of the sea is turned and the wealth of the nations shall come according to the following Qur\u2019anic verse:<\/p>\n Have we not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know. <\/strong>(Al-Qasas28:57)<\/p>\n It is Makkah which is covered by a multitude of camels and to which flocks of Kedar are gathered according to the following Qur\u2019anic verse:<\/p>\n And the camels and cattle We have appointed for you as among the symbols of Allah; for you therein is good. So mention the name of Allah upon them when lined up [for sacrifice]; and when they are [lifeless] on their sides, then eat from them and feed the needy and the beggar. Thus have We subjected them to you that you may be grateful. <\/strong>(Al-Hajj 22:36)<\/p>\n It is Makkah whose gates are open continually, day and night, and are not shut, according to the following Qur\u2019anic verse:<\/p>\n And [mention] when We made the House a place of return for all people and [a place of] security. And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. And We charged Abraham and Ishmael, [saying], \u201cPurify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who are staying [there] for worship and those who bow and prostrate [in prayer].\u201d <\/strong>(Al-Baqarah 2:125)<\/p>\n It is Makkah where neither violence, devastation, and destruction shall not be heard, according to the following Qur\u2019anic verse:<\/p>\n And al-Masjid al-Haram, which We made for the people \u2013 equal are the resident therein and one from outside; and [also] whoever intends [a deed] therein of deviation [in religion] or wrongdoing \u2013 We will make him taste of a painful punishment. <\/strong>(Al-Hajj 22:25)<\/p>\n Cornerstone<\/strong><\/p>\n The New Testament quotes Jesus as referring to a stone rejected by builders, becoming the cornerstone where the kingdom of God will be taken away and given to a people producing its fruits. We read:<\/p>\n Jesus said to them, \u201cHave you never read in the Scriptures: \u201c\u2018The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord\u2019s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes\u2019? Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. (Matthew 21:42-43)<\/p>\n We also read: \u201cThe stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord\u2019s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.\u201d (Psalm 118:22-23)<\/p>\n The Bible also tells us about a stone, breaking images into pieces and becoming a great mountain filling the whole earth. We read: \u201cAs you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces. Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found.
